Confirming the machine wasn't broken, Xing Chen and his senior brother re-tested it several times with the instrument, always getting completely white images and abnormal element content.
"I think there are two explanations for the current situation," his senior brother said, no longer sleepy, rubbing his forehead. "Either I'm dreaming, and you brought this strange rock sample from some other world. Or, our field's fundamental theories might need to be rewritten, because this is a pure substance composed of all elements."
Clearly, Xing Chen's senior brother believed the latter explanation more, while Xing Chen kept a secret, not rashly telling him that this was a specialty of Terra.
After all, if he really spoke out, it might not be State Security who came to pick him up, but rather a mental hospital.
If it ended up in some agency starting with a '7', then it would truly be over.
"How about I try it again on the machine over in Materials? Maybe there'll be a new discovery."
"Alright, you go ahead," his senior brother said, glancing at Theresa, pointing at her, specifically the horns on her head, and then to Xing Chen. "Tell your girlfriend to be careful. Those professors in Materials might be pulling all-nighters too. They're not as easy to talk to as our professor."
Xing Chen nodded, then took Theresa's hand and left the laboratory.
However, he seemed to have forgotten that several Originium Arts crystals were still on the sample preparation workbench.
His senior brother stared at the black stones, and after a brief silence, pulled out his phone.
On the other side, Xing Chen and Theresa quickly passed through the Materials department's faculty office and entered the student work area.
"I'm giving up on being human, JOJO!"
"Demon! Heretic! Feel the Emperor's blessed bolt!"
Perhaps hearing the word "demon," Theresa suddenly stopped, her gaze fixed on the office from which the sound came.
"Xing Chen, does your world also have demons?"
"Yes, there's one right in front of me," Xing Chen said, looking at Theresa. "Don't mind those two chuunibyous in that office."
"Then, Xing Chen, can I... take a look? Just one look, just one," Theresa asked in a pleading tone.
Xing Chen patted the two-hundred-year-old girl's shoulder, indicating she could look freely.
So, as soon as Theresa poked her head through the glass on the door, a guy in a long blue coat, holding a cardboard brick, shouted at Theresa, "There's another heretic here."
Whether it was the voice or the strange-looking cardboard prop, Theresa was startled, and Xing Chen had to step forward and say to the people letting loose inside, "Alright, jokes have an end, don't they?"
"Sorry, sorry, I didn't mean to scare your girlfriend," the 'Blue Elf' took off his helmet and said with a smile to Theresa, "Your girlfriend is quite pretty."
Playtime over, Xing Chen took out the pre-prepared thin slices and had the two of them process them and put them into the machine.
During this time, Theresa quietly asked Xing Chen if all the weapons used in their country were these strange-looking firearms.
Xing Chen then explained to her that these were just fictional weapons from fantasy operas, and while his country also used firearms, they were different from these things.
"Actually, I think it's quite reasonable," Theresa seemed to have thought of something. "Xing Chen, are your firearms powered by Originium Arts or etched ammunition?"
"Neither, we use gunpowder. The power of individual weapons is a bit less than similar weapons in your world, but they excel in being abundant, cheap, and easy to operate."
"Then can you take me to see them?" Theresa's eyes lit up with anticipation.
"Only at a military exhibition. Private ownership of firearms is illegal."
As the two chatted, the results from the materials science electron microscope came in.
(Sorry, I'm quite busy today, so I can only update half.)
