After obtaining all the documents issued by the Columbia government, Xing Chen and Theresa left Trimounts overnight.
Friston wanted to travel to a more distant place with them, but Xing Chen assigned him a task: to assist Columbia in researching long-range nuclear missile delivery vehicles.
“Princess Theresa, Mr. Xing Chen, what are you going to Ursus for?”
Walking on two legs was still too slow, so before they left, they repaired the Banshee buggy, and then bought a Camel carriage suitable for the Ursus terrain from an Ursus merchant.
“We are going to a city called Chernobog to awaken a person named Doctor.”
Apart from the Yan Country, which has dedicated expressways, the overall infrastructure level of Terra is not very good. However, at least the wilderness in other countries has solid ground, while the Ursus wilderness is all muddy.
“Doctor? Is it the evil spirit of Babel?”
“Oh? Do you know him?”
“I heard Princess Lama Lien and other adults say that he was responsible for the Princess’s death. Is that true?”
Theresa’s smile instantly froze.
Lama Lien, her good friend, not only knew a lot but also spoke carelessly.
Because of this, Theresa had no choice but to tell the young Banshee that she and the Doctor only had a slight difference in their philosophies.
“I have never resented him,” she said, leaning back and resting on Xing Chen, “Besides, I’ve already gotten my revenge on him.”
“Oh~~~”
...The two of them, with their one carriage, chatted as they traveled across the vast lands of Ursus.
In the relatively prosperous southern Kazdel border, Ursus could still maintain a relatively clear border alert line.
In the north, you could say the probability of encountering people was even lower than encountering Fissure Beasts.
This also explained why Ursus’s Infected policy was so harsh, yet many Infected still lived in this land; the Ursus government even had to use underhanded, irregular forces of Infected Enforcers.
Because the territory was too large and the grassroots governance was too poor, they simply couldn't manage it all.
“Pretty much the same as your Northern Country, huh?”
Theresa opened a bottle of Vita-Water and gulped it down.
“Phew~~~ I feel much warmer now.”
“I thought you didn’t like alcohol.”
“I can’t get drunk anyway, so I just treat it like water—want some?”
“No, thank you. I don’t like the taste of it.”
“Alright then, I won’t drink it either,” seeing Xing Chen didn’t like it, Theresa lost interest. She simply took out the leftover can, poured the alcohol into it, and ignited it with Originium Arts. “How about it, feeling warmer?”
“Did you forget I don’t feel anything at all?”
“Hehehe~~~”
Theresa wasn’t drunk; in fact, their remaining bodily functions were so limited that neither of them had the ability to get drunk.
The poor Banshee buggy had to pull the two through the mud and also be fed a mouthful of PDA.
“Xing Chen, how far is the nearest mobile city?”
“Let me check.”
Xing Chen pulled out the Ursus map he bought at the Columbia border, which marked the routes of Ursus mobile cities and some larger non-mobile towns—these towns were usually important stopping points for ordinary caravans.
He then looked up at the endless plains and scattered forests.
There were no mountains or rivers, and Terra’s sky was artificial, making it impossible to navigate.
“Are we lost?”
“It shouldn’t be that bad.”
Theresa took the map and tried to find a way, then, as expected, failed.
Since they couldn't find a way, they gave up. It was getting dark, so they needed to find a place to spend the night quickly.
Xing Chen thought the forest not far away looked quite good.
Once in the woods, they dug a pit, buried the buggy, and covered it with leaves for camouflage. This way, when the little Banshee went to rest at night, they wouldn't have to worry about the buggy being dragged away by others.
Afterward, the two split up. Xing Chen went to collect dead branches, dry leaves, berries, and mushrooms, while Theresa tried to hunt some prey.
They wouldn't starve, but it was more comfortable to have something in their stomachs.
Fire fuel was relatively easy to collect; even damp branches could be dried by Theresa using Originium Arts.
However, Xing Chen didn't know many types of mushrooms and berries.
He wasn't afraid of poison, but waking up and having to go back to sleep was quite troublesome.
Never mind, he’d just pick some ugly-looking mushrooms to take back; only stupid dogs would eat those particularly vibrant-looking fungi.
Gradually, Xing Chen found that one of his feet had lost all sensation. He lowered his head, but in the dark environment, his poor vision couldn't see anything.
Never mind, maybe his foot was just frozen. Xing Chen didn't think much of it and walked towards the campsite with his harvest.
On the other side, Theresa was searching for prey in the dark forest.
At this time, feathered beasts with poor eyesight had already returned to their nests to rest.
She nimbly climbed a tree, observing the surrounding environment with her excellent vision.
Soon, she spotted a target.
A small feathered beast nest, with several starved fledglings inside.
The fledglings hadn't been dead for long, but their bodies were already unsuitable as food she could accept.
Theresa buried the half-rotten bodies of the fledglings and continued her search for the next one.
However, after searching several nests, she encountered similar situations.
The large birds in this forest seemed to have disappeared within a very short period of time.
Finally, before the agreed-upon time, she found several feathered beast eggs in a nest.
In Ursus’s natural environment, feathered beast eggs that haven't been cared for by an adult feathered beast for a period of time can no longer hatch, making them perfect for food.
“Xing Chen, I’m back.”
“Hmm, you worked hard. I’ve started the fire, and the water’s boiling, isn’t it?”
Xing Chen didn't know how to cook with Terra’s ingredients, so Theresa was in charge of outdoor cooking.
First, she boiled a few soft-boiled eggs in hot water, then mixed the mushrooms, berries, and remaining feathered beast eggs together to cook into a paste.
Xing Chen took a look and felt it didn't look very appetizing.
“I remember this is how it’s done,” Theresa picked up the can container and sniffed it, “The smell is a bit strange.”
“If you think it’s strange, don’t eat it,” Xing Chen advised from the side. The two of them ate not for survival, but for enjoyment.
“These ingredients aren’t common in Kazdel. If I could have eaten these when I was little…” Theresa didn’t finish her sentence. Then, as if she had made up her mind, she picked up the can and took a big bite.
“Ugh—”
The Princess threw the can far away.
Having gotten used to good food, these things, meant only to sustain life, were simply impossible to swallow.
“Xing Chen, do you smell blood?”
“Do I? Didn’t you go hunting? I just picked up a few things.”
Theresa made the fire bigger, and a metallic, ring-shaped object on Xing Chen’s leg reflected the fire’s light.
