On the ice plain, a Ursus-style land transport ship was moving across the solidly frozen ground.
“What a behemoth.”
On a nearby highland, Xing Chen put down his binoculars, while Patriot turned to ask Yelena if all the landmines had been laid.
Yelena stated that her squad had worked all night and finally laid the minefield in the designated area.
“Xing Chen, do we really not need to go?” Theresa asked. “Bozdcasti and I can easily take down that landship.”
“No need. Let us test out the new equipment and tactics.”
Using minefields to lure targets to a specific area was a tried and true tactic.
“Xing Chen, we can start now.” Theresa received a message from the boarding party, saying that the landship had entered an attackable state.
“Alright, tell Ivan he can start anytime.”
Upon receiving the order, Ivan checked the disposable jetpack prepared by the Reunion Movement. Once activated, the massive thrust instantly propelled him to the height of the ship’s side.
“Enemy attack!” The well-trained Ursus soldiers immediately reacted, pulling out their standard high-power crossbows, ready to counterattack.
Then, he saw a shieldguard holding a bolter, but without a shield.
“Suka blyat…”
Before he could even finish swearing, Ivan’s shot blew the opponent’s head off.
Immediately after, Ivan quickly ended the lives of several ordinary Ursus soldiers; their crossbow bolts only left shallow scratches on the shieldguard’s armor.
Without a shield, a shieldguard’s survivability would decrease, but it would gain better flexibility.
And a brand new long-range attack capability.
After the boarding area was cleared, other shieldguards equipped with new weapons also appeared.
The weapons in their hands looked at first glance like some kind of handheld spear with a large lump at the back, but they were actually small-caliber tank cannons.
More Ursus soldiers rushed over. They tried to damage the shieldguards with explosives and crossbow bolts, but many did not even complete their attack motions before being hit by armor-piercing rounds, leaving holes or even mangled flesh.
Xing Chen carefully studied the shieldguard’s tactics: equipping heavy armor and moving with infantry to break through enemy lines.
Isn’t this the positioning of a tank? It just lacked a cannon.
So, he combined the Reunion Movement’s production equipment status and designed an artillery piece that shieldguards could use.
Although the Imperial Guard promised Chernobog to the Reunion Movement, they still had to seize that promise themselves.
The good news was that Terra’s management of industrial equipment, apart from sorcery unit-related technology and equipment, was very lax.
In cooperation with an insider, a batch of obsolete old machine tools was sent to the ice plain.
Using this equipment, they produced a 45mm cannon, paired with a 5-round magazine.
This was the result of combining power, weight, and sustained firepower. If the caliber were increased further, the weight would seriously affect the fluidity of movement, and the rate of fire would also decrease. If it were reduced, given the quality of handmade weapons, the armor penetration would be insufficient.
Removing the gun carriage and gun shield, and adding a magazine, the weight was acceptable for a shieldguard, and it was sufficient to deal with most individual targets.
After all, troops like shieldguards, with both defense and Arts resistance online, are not very common, and their numbers are even fewer than Imperial Vanguards.
At least the ship to be attacked this time did not have any.
“Aim and fire, reduce the number of shots. The cannon’s lifespan is limited.”
Fortunately, Terra’s material strength was relatively high; otherwise, Xing Chen would not have been able to figure out how to manufacture the gun barrel.
Ivan had just finished a burst of bolter fire when two hidden Imperial Vanguards rushed out. However, before they could get close enough to throw their spears, they were cut in half by five armor-piercing rounds from another shieldguard squad.
“Thanks.” Ivan said, thanking them while taking out the magazine to replace the empty one.
“Columbia’s weapons are still good, sufficient for hitting lightly armored units, and easy to carry,” the shieldguard who fired shook the tank cannon in his hand, then called his teammate over to help him reload.
Due to structural and weight issues, shieldguards holding the cannon found it inconvenient to reload themselves, so Xing Chen arranged them in pairs, with the other shieldguard carrying a shield as usual and ammunition.
During the battle to clear the upper deck, the Reunion Movement maintained complete fire superiority, while the Ursus side had no suitable weapons to counter the shieldguards’ heavy armor.
The battle was completely one-sided.
Ivan called all the combat squads over to arrange the operational plan. After preparations were complete, Xing Chen suddenly called.
“Ivan, the plan has changed. This time, do not attack the second bridge and the engine room.”
“I have already completed the deployment of traditional Ursus boarding tactics. Has something happened, Mr. Xing Chen?”
“I want to re-emphasize the objective. Our mission is to seize weapons, not to capture or destroy the landship.”
It was not yet time to directly confront the Army Group. Destroying the landship would provoke the Army Group into a full-scale extermination, which would be detrimental to the Reunion Movement’s development.
“Understood. I will adjust the deployment immediately.”
Arriving at the hatch leading into the ship, the shieldguards placed explosives and blew up the locking mechanism.
A Vanguard Elite suddenly rushed up to engage Ivan in close combat. The shieldguard’s armor withstood the sneak attack, and Ivan turned his back towards the cannon shieldguard, who immediately opened fire, killing the Vanguard. The armor-piercing round penetrated the Vanguard’s body and then struck the shieldguard’s armor, leaving a few shallow dents.
“This thing packs a punch,” Ivan said, gritting his teeth.
It didn’t penetrate, but the base damage (impact force) was still there.
After that, they just rolled forward along the corridor. The Ursus soldiers were completely unable to organize an effective defense.
Their crossbow bolts were completely ineffective; their rate of fire, range, and power were far inferior to the enemy’s, and their own armor was as thin as paper.
Soon, each squad achieved its set objectives, controlling the first bridge and the connecting port, driving the Ursus soldiers towards the second bridge, the engine room, and the mechanical level.
According to the intelligence provided by the Imperial Guard, he gained control of the ship, opened the connecting port, and directly dropped the arms supplies from the connecting port.
At this point, the reception team immediately emerged and collected the dropped arms.
Ursus equipment was known for its durability, so this level of jostling was not considered very serious.
After completing the mission, Ivan led his squad to the cargo hold.
In the cargo hold now, only one last container remained.
When opened, it was full of the latest Ursus paratrooper jetpacks.
Every shieldguard here had once been an Ursus elite, so operating these Ursus war machines was not difficult for them.
As for whether the jetpacks intended for paratroopers could carry the shieldguards’ heavy armor, none of the Ursus people here seemed to have considered it.
Doesn't matter.
Just jump and it’s done.
