Yu Dong frowned when she heard Village Head Gu’s words. She said to her, “Can they really not catch any?”
As long as a pair of ducks were caught, then she would be able to have enough ducklings to make up for the demands of roasted and Peking duck at the bar.
In the past these two dishes were easy to make but nowadays with the butchers and the livestock farms trying to keep most of the livestock for their own consumption, it was proving difficult for Yu Dong to keep up with the demand of the customers.
If not she would not have asked the villagers to catch wild ducks.
Village head Gu shook her head and replied, “None. The children and mers are setting traps around the river banks and the foothills of the mountains, they cannot catch anything in the traps.”
These days Village Head Gu was staying in the village all day long after injuring her legs. Thus, she had a very good idea of how hard the village kids and mers were working to catch the ducks.
However, with the drought going on–all the river banks were sucked dry and no streams were flowing in the mountain either. Because of this, finding a duckling was proving more and more harder these days.
It wasn’t as if no one was trying to catch them but because there was nothing to catch!
Yu Dong frowned upon hearing this, after all, they were in desperate need of catching some ducks or else the customers in her liquor club would cause a riot. They have already expressed their dissatisfaction with the lack of servings of the Peking ducks.
Even though Yu Dong told them that it was getting harder and harder to buy ducks with the butchers not selling them anymore, most of her customers were rich and spoiled young mers who did not like eating roasted or fried chicken.
They thought it was too greasy and oily which was why they were more inclined towards buying Peking duck.
After getting used to eating the Peking duck, these mers have gotten addicted to eating it every once in a while. Now that the servings have decreased these mers are causing trouble every day. Sometimes they fought themselves or they would send their servants to stay outside the club.
The second it opened, these servants would rush in and order the roasted duck or Peking duck and when they got nothing they would take away the five-spice roast duck.
The ones who could afford it would buy the orange glaze duck.
Anyway, these rich mers just have to get their hands on their popular duck dishes and the trouble that this popularity had brought to Yu Dong was not simple.
She was getting a headache by being called to the club ever so often all because of a mer fight.
Not to mention if this went on, she might offend some officials.
She thought for a while before saying, “I will give you a specially prepared livestock pill. You should use it and see if you can trap the ducks.” as she spoke she rose to her feet and went out of the office.
And when she returned she was holding a large jaw which she placed on the table and said to Village Head Gu, “This is a special pill that I learned to make from my mother. Make sure to use it properly.”
In truth, it was just alfalfa leaves that were ground and turned into pills with some spiritual water sprinkled on them while it was being made.
However, there was no need to tell Village Head Gu. It was better to dump the blame on Madam Yu and move on.
When Village Head Gu heard Yu Dong say that she was willing to share such a good thing with the villagers, she was truly moved.
“Don’t worry, Madam Yu,” Village Head Gu took the jar from Yu Dong and turned to leave. Once she was gone, Yu Dong also put down the glasses on her nose and placed them on the table before heading out of the office.
Once she pulled open the door, the sweet smell of sour and spicy chicken wafted over to Yu Dong, she blinked her eyes and stepped towards the dining room where Ye Liu was setting the tableware while Shen Li was inside the kitchen with Chen Mi.
She noticed the two mers not speaking and exchanged a look with Chen Mi who was looking exhausted. She had no idea what was going on but was certain that whatever happened before her arrival made Chen Mi tired.
“What is for lunch?” Yu Dong asked casually to release the tension in the air. However, as soon as she finished speaking, Ye Liu and Shen Li answered at the same time,
“Sour and spicy chicken, with lamb soup and stir-fried beans,” the two mers spoke at the same time before turning to look at one another with a glare.
Yu Dong: “…”
Chen Mi sighed heavily before banging the ladle in his hands on the aisle. He glared at the two mers before saying to them, “You better get rid of this attitude, how long are you going to drag this fight, huh?”
“Brother Li, I admit that what Brother Liu did was indeed dangerous but you should tell him that you are more worried about him getting injured than acting as if you are upset with his lack of elegance.” he then turned to look at Ye Liu before snapping at him, “And you too Brother Liu! There is no need for you to take the matter this hard. Brother Li is not angry because you fought.
He is angry because you put yourself in danger! You could have gotten hurt. That’s the reason why he is angry.”
“Mi…” Yu Dong tried to calm the mer down as both Ye Liu and Shen Li were looking at him as if he had lost his mind.
However, Chen Mi was on the roll. He turned and glared at the two mers before saying to them, “Now shake hands and let go of this matter! Because I am going crazy.”
