At 1428 Elm Street, Chunmu Town, Ohio, USA — the Thompson residence.
This was a multi-story, all-wood house, several decades old, with a distinct style reminiscent of North American slave-owning times.
Being a wooden house, when a person of significant weight walked inside, the wooden floorboards would often creak and groan under their steps, as if they were about to break.
Yet, Li Hai, who was currently walking around inside, and was also as tall and strong as a calf, knew that this was merely an illusion.
Because in the face of the merciless erosion of time, old things never truly disappear so easily.
They often cling to new people and things in some sinister and dark form, hoping not to be abandoned by time.
And Nancy Thompson, who now sat before Li Hai with a look of terror, had suffered endless torment and destruction from such old things. “In my dream, he wore a tattered red and black striped sweater, and his face was covered in scars, as if he had been burned by a great fire. He also wore a hat, and oh, his fingers had razors, very long ones!”
Nancy Thompson, looking utterly haggard as if she hadn't slept for a long time, clutched her mother's hand and murmured, “I’m not the only one on this street who’s dreamed of him; three of my friends have too.”
“So, where are your friends now?”
Li Hai asked calmly, “Are they still alive?”
“Dead.”
Nancy said blankly, her voice filled with fear, “They’re all dead, died in their dreams, killed by that dream demon, and it was a terrible death.
I, I’m filled with fear now. I don’t dare to sleep. I’m afraid if I fall asleep, I’ll meet him. I haven’t slept for five days.”
“Oh my goodness.”
Mrs. Thompson, standing nearby, quickly embraced her daughter and began to weep softly.
Nancy’s father, Thompson, stood to the side, his face grave and solemn.
“Is that so?” Li Hai tilted his head and asked, “What did the police say?”
Nancy sighed: “They said they were all accidental deaths.”
“Heh~”
Li Hai first chuckled, then glanced at Charlie, who was filming with a camera nearby, before sighing with compassion, “Child, it seems you are in great need of help.”
As he spoke, he slightly raised his hand, and a holy light (self-luminous) blossomed in his palm, slowly extending towards Nancy, who looked surprised and devout:
“Clasp my hand.”
Li Hai said with a sacred expression, “This light is the benevolent light cast down by God out of pity after hearing of your plight. It will drive away the evil that has tainted your body and Soul.”
“The benevolent light cast down by God?!”
Nancy’s eyes widened, her body trembling, and she cried out in a near-gasping voice, “Hallelujah! Lord! My Lord, I knew you would save me!”
With that, she broke free from her mother’s embrace and quickly knelt before Li Hai, raising her hands to tightly clasp his fingertips, her face devoutly calling out “Amen” repeatedly.
Meanwhile, Charlie, after finishing this segment, nodded in satisfaction and secretly gave Li Hai an OK gesture.
Li Hai understood, immediately withdrew his hand from Nancy’s clasped palms, and at the same time, asked in a detached yet gentle tone:
“Ms. Nancy, has the fear in your heart dissipated a lot, and has your cold blood warmed up a lot?”
“Eh?! It really has!”
Nancy said with surprise and excitement, “I feel, I feel all warm inside my body, like there’s a power reverberating, comforting me.”
Upon hearing this, Li Hai immediately showed a relieved smile.
Mr. and Mrs. Thompson also let out a long sigh of relief, their faces showing contentment.
But in reality, he had done nothing but flash his palm once.
These so-called warm feelings were all Nancy’s own imagination.
In medical terms, it was the placebo effect.
“Hmm~”
Li Hai nodded and smiled, “It seems God is very fond of you.”
“Thank you, Holy Sword Angel!”
Nancy continuously prayed to Li Hai, “Thank you, Saint Anthony, thank you God! Amen!”
Mr. and Mrs. Thompson also quickly thanked Li Hai repeatedly, constantly calling out “Amen.”
“Amen~”
Li Hai also made the sign of the cross on his chest, then slowly said, “I can feel that the dream demon has placed a mark on you. It is by relying on your existence that he can crawl out of Hell and wreak havoc on the human world.”
“Ah?!” Nancy said with surprise and fear, “Then, then what should I do?”
“Mr. Anthony.” Mr. Thompson pressed, “Can this mark be removed?”
Mrs. Thompson, standing nearby, wiped away tears with a handkerchief and nodded repeatedly.
“Rest assured.” Li Hai first comforted Nancy, “I will deal with this dream demon.”
Then he said to the worried Mr. and Mrs. Thompson: “Don’t worry, I promise you, that dream demon will absolutely not be able to harm Ms. Nancy.”
Then Li Hai said to Nancy again: “You must be very sleepy by now, right? Sleep soundly, I will go into your dream to help you catch that demon.”
“Re—really?”
Nancy hesitated, a mix of longing and fear, “Sir, I’m really scared. I’m afraid of meeting that dream demon.”
“Don’t be afraid.”
Li Hai encouraged, “God is always behind you. Evil cannot defeat justice. You must firmly believe this.”
“Then, then alright.” Nancy stammered, “I’ll try, see if I can fall asleep smoothly.”
“Mm.” Li Hai nodded, “I’ll wait outside the door. Once you fall asleep, I will enter your dream.”
“Okay.” Nancy nodded, then bravely walked towards her bedroom.
Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thompson, after she entered the bedroom, asked Li Hai with worried expressions: “Mr. Anthony, you,
Do you really have confidence?”
“Heh heh.” Li Hai chuckled lightly, “Rest assured, in this world—there is no demon I cannot get rid of.”
Seeing him say this, Mr. and Mrs. Thompson could only sit nervously on the sofa, slowly waiting.
And Li Hai slowly closed his eyes, beginning to operate the dream-entering witchcraft he had learned from a certain contestant in the Psychic War arena,
preparing to enter Nancy’s dream.
On a green lawn surrounded by an endless forest, Nancy suddenly opened her eyes and sat upright.
“This time—it was so fast?!”
She looked at the silent and dark forest around her, muttering in terror, “I, I just lay on the bed and fell asleep and dreamed?! Could it be that dream demon—”
Before Nancy finished speaking, she heard clapping and a children’s rhyme from behind:
“One, two, it’s coming for you;
Three, four, lock your door;
Five, six, grab your sheet tight;
Seven, eight, hold your Qi;
Nine, ten, you’ll never sleep again.”
